"Fred Rogers Tribute and Celebrity Gala to Feature Award Ceremony and Concert and Private Reception; Funds Raised to Benefit Children's Programming"

San Diego, CA ( PRWEB ) May 23, 2009 -- Children's Media Foundation will celebrate the life of Fred Rogers on May 31st 2009, honoring him with the 'Children's Hero Award' at the foundations first annual star-studded concert and awards gala.

The event, hosted at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido, will feature an awards ceremony and concert including celebrity performers, as well as a post-concert reception. Cast members of ABC's "The Next Best Thing" featuring celebrity impersonators will be attending and performing.

In addition to commemorating the life and legacy of Fred Rogers, celebrity guests and celebrity impersonating performers will be on hand to bid farewell to a staple of great American children's programming, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. As of 2009, the show that has ran on PBS for 40 years, will no longer air regularly.

Members of Rogers' family have been invited to accept the First Annual Children's Hero Award in honor of Mister Rogers. The award, a $10,000 donation, will be used to continue the work of Family Communications, the organization Fred Rogers established in 1971.

In addition to promoting awareness and raising funds for children's programming, the event will also introduce Mister Roger's successor, Michael Kinsell. The Children's Media Foundation produces Kinsell's new self-created television program, Michael's Enchanted Neighborhood. This new public television program continues to extend the concepts pioneered by Mister Rogers by addressing the intellectual, emotional and social needs of young children.

Tickets for Fred Rogers Tribute Gala begin at $100 per person. Funds raised will benefit the Children's Media Foundation. For more information or to order tickets, please contact the California Center for the Arts at 800-988-4253 or www.ArtCenter.org. For media inquiries, please contact Lisa Jammal at LJAM PR.
