The McCormick New Media Women Entrepreneurs Award and J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism will provide two-year grants of $14,000 to proposals for new websites, mobile services or other news ventures led by female journalists. Successful applicants will receive $12,000 in the first year; a supplementary grant of $2,000 for the second year is contingent on grantees’ ability to raise an equal amount through their own efforts. Grantees also must launch their projects within 10 months. Applicants have until Jan. 23, 2013 to submit proposals. J-Lab and Current are independent journalism centers operated by American University’s School of Communication.
