Alongside its annual Edward R. Murrow Awards, the Radio and Television Digital News Association also presents an annual prize for diversity in newsrooms, represented either by a diverse staff or by coverage of diversity. This award is presented in collaboration with UNITY Journalists, an organization devoted to improving diversity in newsrooms. In 2012, all three RTDNA/UNITY Award winners on the radio side were in public radio: WNYC’s Studio 360, Vermont Public Radio and WFDD in Winston-Salem, N.C. The deadline for RTDNA/UNITY Award entries, as for the Edward R. Murrow Awards, is Feb. 8, 2013.
