The Tribeca Film Institute is offering sizable grants to documentarians and a special prize for sport-centered work.

Submissions to the 2013 TFI Documentary Fund will be accepted Sept. 5 through Nov. 5, and grantees will announced in February 2013. The fund awards grants of $10,000 to $25,000 to in-progress, feature-length documentaries that focus on unique characters and storytelling. Applicants must provide artistic statements, project descriptions, timelines, budgets and footage. There is no entry fee.

New this year is the TFI/ESPN Prize, which will award a single $30,000 grant to a documentary project that meets the above requirements and tells a narrative centered in the world of sports. They’re looking for producers with lofty ambitions: The ideal recipient “will strive to change the way people perceive sports.”
