For the third round of the Knight Foundation’s media innovation challenge, participants in both for-profit and non-profit media sectors are invited to create new “tools and approaches that use mobile to inform people and communities,” including but not limited to apps. Grants of up to $1 million will be awarded from a pot of $5 million; winners will be announced in January. Applicants to the challenge’s previous two rounds (which focused on networks and data) are eligible to apply here. The challenge application form will close at noon on Sept. 10.
