Presented by the Center for Community and Ethnic Media at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York City, the awards are presented to local stories in print, online, photo and broadcast media. The Ippie Awards accept reporting on ethnic issues in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut that was published or broadcast in a community or ethnic media outlet in calendar year 2012. Ten cash prizes will be awarded to the winners, ranging from $750 to $1,500 in value. The entry deadline is Feb. 25.
In 2012, Newark’s NPR affiliate WBGO took home the award for Best Audio for “Newark Roll Call,” by Monica Miller. Feet in 2 Worlds, a nonprofit immigrant-journalist fellowship program based out of The New School that routinely partners with public radio outlets, had three pieces as awards runner-ups.
