The Fund for Investigative Journalism is seeking grant proposals.

Independent journalists seeking travel support and other reporting expenses can submit a grant proposal to FIJ, which is strongly encouraging proposals “relating to government accountability and environmental issues in the United States, local or regional stories with national implications, and applications from ethnic media.” FIJ is also interested in investigations having to do with income inequality and climate change. Grants average about $5,000 and include an opportunity to be paired with a veteran journalist for a mentorship. The deadline is 5:00 p.m. EST Sept. 28.
