The foundation has opened its 2012 Open Call for Documentary Films, and applicants can request any amount. The typical grant range is $50,000–$200,000. MacArthur’s website states that the foundation is looking for projects that “address important, contemporary social topics — international or domestic,” as well as projects that follow issues in-depth over extended periods of time. The four-step application process requires a video sample, a description of the film and its budget, and bios of key production personnel. MacArthur will only make grants to eligible organizations, not individuals, and only entities that can claim complete financial and editorial control of the project. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. CST Sept. 7.
