Docs dealing with international issues are eligible for an NEH award.

The National Endowment for the Humanities holds its Bridging Cultures through Film: International Topics program to support “documentary films that examine international and transnational themes in the humanities,” including topics such as religion, ethics, literature or history. Applicants can apply for one of two levels of support for their film: development (up to $75,000 will be awarded) or production (up to $800,000). The number of grants awarded varies by year but averages six per year. The deadline to apply is June 12 for projects scheduled to begin production in January 2014.
