CPB will fund public radio partnerships looking to expand news operations.

The two-year grants are meant to strengthen beat reporting at local public radio stations on specific topics, resulting in stories to be nationally distributed via NPR, Public Radio International and American Public Media newsmagazines. CPB intends for the grants to strengthen news collaboration at the local and national levels.

Station partnerships applying for grants should comprise at least three stations collaborating on coverage. Each partnership must commit one editor and at least one multimedia reporter per station to the vertical, with each reporter devoting at least half of his or her time to content creation. Partnerships can propose any topic.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 3, 2014. Additional details on the application process are on CPB’s website.
