The corporation will offer grants to groups of three or more TV and radio stations to establish new community-based multimedia reporting collaborations, as it has previously done with seven LJC projects. LJC funding fell on hard times in 2011, but CPB is now showing a renewed commitment toward the project.
CPB requests that each LJC be staffed with an editor and “a team of skilled journalists” focusing on a single editorial topic of interest to the region. (CPB also encourages the hiring of a “digital media editor” and a social media specialist.) Proposed projects should be conducted over a minimum of 24 months. The deadline is 5 p.m. Eastern time April 19. For more information and the grant application, visit CPB’s website.
