Coders with the ability to create “small-scale utilities and tools that help solve specific, repeatable journalistic problems” can stand to win $10,000 grants from OpenNews, which encourages both large and small newsrooms to apply for funding via a six-question application form. OpenNews will also become involved with the coding process and eventually open-source the end product. Submissions will be evaluated on a rolling basis through 2013.
