Obituary

Elliot Sanderson, longtime
manager in Charlotte

Elliot B. Sanderson, station manager for most of his 35 years at WTVI in Charlotte, N.C., died Oct. 31 in Matthews, N.C., from complications of a rare blood cancer.

He was instrumental in WTVI’s transition from an instructional TV outlet to an independent, community-owned PBS affiliate. He bolstered the station’s production and raised funds to remodel the building in 1990.

Sanderson produced many documentaries, including the Hometown TV series that highlighted the lives of local Jewish, Greek and African-American families.

“He left a legacy of TV professionals he mentored over the years, and who have won more than 15 Mid-South Regional Emmy Awards,” the station said.

He is survived by his wife Fern; son Josh and wife Stacy; daughter Dina Greenberg and husband Aryeh; brother Stuart Sanderson; and seven grandchildren.

His funeral was Nov. 1. The family suggests donations to Lubavitch Education Center North Carolina (6619 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270), Temple Israel (4901 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226) or the American Cancer Society.
