Debbie Stapell, former PBS librarianDeborah A. Stapell, who ran PBS’s tape library for many years, died Oct. 21 following a stroke. She was 61 and had lived in Fairfax, Va.

Stapell was assistant director of library operations for PBS from June 1986 to May 1997, when she was promoted to associate director. She left PBS in March 2001, bound for Pillar-to-Post, a television postproduction house in Alexandria, Va.

She was the daughter of William and Jean Stapell of Hamburg, N.Y. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1968 and Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y.

Stapell is survived by three sisters, Diane Breunsbach and husband Bill; Kristin Sciarrino and husband Joseph; and Mollie DeBoeck; as well as seven nieces and nephews.
Plans for a memorial service are pending.
