News Director

This position will be responsible for leading a staff of creative and enterprising reporters, hosts and producers who generate NPR-quality news features, spot news and special programming. The position will make daily news assignments and oversee editing to ensure clarity, journalistic integrity and story impact. Will oversee FM news production and help shape and initiate strategic vision and coordinate all news department resources. Position is expected to work in a collaborative management style. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field of study and 3 years’ professional broadcast journalism experience (news reporting, writing, editing and on-air required). Prefer 3 years’ newsroom management experience, work experience in a multiperson public broadcasting newsroom, experience in working with a budget, experience with on-air fundraising, experience in multimedia storytelling. News On-Air Fundraising Producer

Responsible for producing audio content for all on-air fundraising efforts on the News Service. Candidate qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in video/audio production, educational media or related field. Minimum 5 years’ experience in business management, production design, video/audio production facility or related setting. Working knowledge of studio operations and management. Must have strong project management, analytical, organizational, time-management, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, with the ability to listen for understanding the needs of clients and staff. Job responsibilities include: Management of field and studio facilities including set design, video production and scheduling. Prepares filming schedules, manages personnel and studio assignments, and maintains studio supplies and equipment. Organizes and manages production projects outside of the main studio facility. Develops new markets, establishes charge rates and cost estimations, supervises accounting activity, and prepares production budget operational activities and services. Coordinates a variety of technical tasks involved in the operation of a studio, including setting and operating tape and mixing equipment to achieve the desired effect of the production. Maintains inventory of studio supplies and equipment; coordinates, evaluates, and makes recommendations for the use of new media technology in studio operations.
