Five years’ experience on high-power (30 kw minimum) UHF, liquid-cooled television transmitters, including 2 years’ experience on FM radio transmitters (2 kw minimum); 3 years’ experience climbing and working on self-supported broadcast towers; 2 years’ experience working with broadcast microwave systems. The Ohio University School of Telecommunications and the WOUB Center for Public Media in Athens announce graduate associateships for women and persons of color to study public broadcasting in a 12-month (September 2008 to August 2009) M.A. program. Concentrations are available in the following areas: Management and Children’s Programming. Over the year, students receive a total stipend of $15,000 plus tuition waivers for four quarters. Room, board, general expenses, insurance and student fees are the responsibility of the student. The program has been ongoing since 1981 and has trained over 100 public broadcasting professionals to return to a career with specialized skills through course work in the School and professional work at WOUB. Requirements for the program are 2 years of full-time work in public broadcasting and a baccalaureate degree with at least a 2.5 grade point average. Materials are being accepted now. Fordham University’s M.A. Program in Public Communications seeks qualified applicants to its degree program, including a graduate assistantship at WFUV-FM. Two successful candidates will be accepted into the degree program and a part-time position in one of the following areas: (1) roducer position on the station’s public affairs show, Cityscape. Requires strong writing and production skills, advanced organizational abilities and excellent follow-through. Familiarity with public radio journalism, audio production and New York City issues a plus. (2) Producer position in WFUV’s Music Department. Requires knowledge of contemporary music and AAA format, advanced organizational abilities and excellent follow-through. Audio production or radio experience a plus. Aspen Public Radio is seeking an experienced public radio program director. The PD is responsible for the ongoing training and coaching of the on-air staff. Additional responsibilities include arranging for the acquisition and implementation of new programming. The PD must also develop an on-air promotion strategy. The PD will lead the station in switching to a new automation system. The PD oversees all live broadcasts and re-broadcasts of lectures, concerts and panel discussions from the Aspen Institute, the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Aspen Writers’ Foundation and Jazz Aspen Snowmass. The PD will also be instrumental in the development and production of a new weekly one-hour magazine show focused on local public and cultural affairs. The potential exists for some on-air hosting. Located in Colorado’s beautiful Roaring Fork Valley and just blocks away from the Aspen Mountain gondola, Aspen Public Radio is a growing regional presence in western Colorado. Aspen Public Radio offers competitive salaries, although housing throughout the Roaring Fork Valley can be quite expensive.
