In fall 2005, after 25 years in Washington, D.C., we moved to the extremely mellow suburb of Takoma Park, Md. — a half-block outside D.C. at:
Takoma Business Center
6930 Carroll Ave., Suite 350
Takoma Park, Md. 20912
See directions below for:

By Metro, we're about a half-hour from downtown D.C., plus a two-block walk. Take the Red Line in the direction of Silver Spring and Glenmont, Md. Get off at the Takoma station, which is on Carroll, two blocks from us. Walk up a slight grade, past the 7-11 to our building, the only building within sight of more than four floors. (It has 10 stories.)
If you drive from downtown or Dupont Circle, go north up one of several major streets.
Take Aspen or Cedar through the homey neighborhood. Cross under the railroad/Metro tracks. You are now two blocks from us—consult the map. Visitor parking is behind the building.
If you know Rock Creek Park or enjoy driving without street signs, go north on Rock Creek Parkway.
Don't get off at any of these places: Connecticut Avenue, the Zoo, Porter Street/Klingle Road, Tilden Street/Park Road, Piney Branch Parkway, Blagden Avenue and Broad Branch Road.
Follow the signs as the parkway turns into Beach Drive. Pass under Military Road overpass. After Beach Drive makes a long curve to the right, begin watching for Sherrill Drive. Turn right, into the woods, drive up the hill. As you leave the park and cross 16th Street, Sherrill turns into Aspen Street. Then cross Georgia Avenue and Piney Branch Road. Stay on Aspen under the railroad tracks. Turn left on Willow to Carroll. Consult the map.
From Bethesda, Md., take East-West Highway to Silver Spring. Cross Colesville Road and continue on East-West Highway to Georgia. Turn right on Georgia. Take Georgia south past Walter Reed Army Hospital. Take first left after hospital at Aspen Street, N.W. Stay on Aspen as it crosses under railroad. Take second left, Willow Street. Consult map.
From nearby downtown Silver Spring, Md., take Georgia Avenue south and turn left on Aspen Street as above. If you know the area well, you could also go south on Blair Road or Piney Branch Road and turn left on Cedar, crossing under the railroad/Metro tracks.
If you're coming from Megalopolis or the northern loop of the Beltway (I-495), get off at Exit 28B and go south on New Hampshire Avenue. Pass University Boulevard (Route 193). Turn right on East-West Highway (a.k.a., Ethan Allen Avenue or Route 410). When you come to the food coop and the Takoma Park Fire Station, go straight as the street's name changes to Carroll Avenue. (Don't stay on Route 410, which takes a sharp right.) Follow Carroll into the countercultural shopping area known for tie-dyed t-shirts. Carroll swerves right before the stone church. We're two blocks further, on the right. Visitor parking in back.
